To answer Amarinda's question...

In addition to drinking copious amounts of alcohol, we sit around and write, brainstorm, work on picture pages and laugh until our stomachs hurt. Right now, four of our members are critiquing their current chapters with one another while the rest of us are typing away.

Also, we eat. A lot.

Jen was trying to light the fireplace just now, but it was looking like it was going to be Sylvia Plath charades so she stopped.

It's just so nice to get a break from our families and hang out with other people who understand about the voices in our heads and don't mind when we go under the dome for hours on end.

So...about those free books...

Shame...I thought it was just drinking.

No, I can see that writing would have to occur in order to call it the writing retreat. Otherwise if would be the drinking plonk retreat and that probably would fly.

There's a lot of drinking...

If you're drinking copious amounts of alcohol, do you really come up with viable writing? I have to wonder...

If hers is like others I've been to, the drinking occurs AFTER the brainstorming session. But I would imagine they also have quite the hang over in the morning. I never drink on my own. Last night I had the first wine in maybe a year. But on these retreats, I'll have a glass of something too to wind down. Besides, their safe.

Seriously, I saw more Coke (as in Cola, not the snorty type) consumed than coolers and wine. Now, if Jen had been able to find the stuff for margaritas. . .
Ah, good times, good times.

Tell your friends that I drank plenty, and valiantly, for this retreat.
