I've come to a terrifying conclusion

I've become my mother.

No...I haven't accidentally put spearment in my quiche in place of parsley (Worst. Quiche. Ever.)

And I haven't accidentally washed clothes in maple syrup instead of laundry detergent.

(An aside...my mother is brilliant - seriously. She has a BA in both psychology and philosophy, a Master's in psych and a Ph.D. in psych, and she's the sweetest person you'll ever meet, but sometimes she's so absentminded she's dangerous!)

Anyway, I've been dragging fabric out of the sewing closet so I can make clothes for RT (yes, Sandra, I'll post pics when I'm done) and I came to the horrible conclusion that in some very concrete ways, I've become my mother.

I have twelve 40 gallon plastic totes filled with fabic. Filled. To the top. The lids barely latch. Most of the stuff I bought for a particular reason or project. There are several quilts that need to be made. There's a lot of fabric in there meant for skirts and tops, but there's also a lot that I've looked at and said, WTF???

I remember when I was learning to sew, I rarely ever had to go to the fabric store, I'd just go into the sewing room and find fabric that worked for whatever project I was starting. It seems this has carried into my adult life. I did some quick math, and I estimated how much fabric I have. Over a thousand yards...

I have become my mother. I am a fabric whore.

I am my mother and I could not think of a better role model to follow

Either that or you've become my mother. Her sewing room is just as bad. Or just as good, depending on how you look at it.

But I have broken the cycle! I don't own a sewing machine! I have no fabric!

My mother had to reattach a button at my house once, so I brought out my little 3x5 sewing kit. Mom just looked at it, shook her head, and said, "Sad."

Ooh I love fabrics! Don't sew at all ever but I sure do like looking at them.

Yes, but can you crochet an afghan of unloved yarn?

I have the fabric AND the yarn. What I do not have is TIME! Sad...

I'm a yarn hoarder myself...goes back to when my great-grandma was teaching me to knit.

I turned into my mom eight years ago when I took over the concession stand and joined the fire department auxilliary. Scary!

Ha! My mom had lots of fabric too. I however, can't sew a lick. And though sometimes I lament that, mostly I'm thrilled that no sewing is expected of me. I am, however, a whiz at fabric glue. Oh yes.

I look a lot like my mother. I used to think a lot of my traits were from her. HOWEVER, the older I get, the more I realize she was right. Personality wise, I'm like my father. A couple of the thing I assumed I got from her, he started exhibiting. Since he lives in Ohio and I'm in Florida, I don't get to see him very often. :(

Am I the only female here that takes after the male parent?

My mom did alterations, tailoring, bridal, and sewing in general for her living. It was her life. And crafts, knitting, crocheting, upholstering, etc. I can't do a lick of any of those. I can't thread the sewing machine. No, I'm not kidding. I can't sew a straight dart. It bores me to tears. Since I always had mom to do all my sewing, I was spoiled. Now that she's not here, I'm lost. I tried a couple times after she died, but I'm hopeless. And I inherited her sewing machine and my grandmothers'. So I have two sewing machines and they're just sitting here.

I stick to buttons and straight seams. Hated sewing in Home Ec, although I do like to cross-stitch:)

Oh it's beautiful. I love fabric. NOt as much as you it seems, but I love it. And thank you for explaining why I am so absentmided and dangerous. I am brilliant. Whew. Was worried...

You and Ma are just weird.

My "mama" trait is searching for my car keys when they're in my hand.

I think I'm more like Jeff, anyway. I got his four good qualities.
